TITLE:
How to spring back from entrepreneurial hardship: the gift of resilience.

DESCRIPTION:
Common business book wisdom exhorts entrepreneurs to double down, to dig deep when our plans fail to yield imagined results. Much like weight loss programs, the answer is "more":  more discipline, more effort, more thinking, more investment. Slogans like FOCUS: 'follow one course until successful' can spur feelings of shame in an entrepreneur who describes his situation as futile.

But what if something that's off-limits for founders turns out to be an ingredient to their recovery? What if the optimal response to hardship requires something that runs counter to the mantras of our business mentors and magazines? Or maybe more challenging, what if it contradicts our cultural notions of 'manliness'?

Uncommon insights from neuroscience and human development give clues to why we get stuck, men especially. They also explain how we can stay stuck, floundering in either sudden crisis or slow stagnation.

Our typical responses to hardship can unwittingly prolong it. Get unstuck sooner when you learn how to prompt your own optimal response. Resilience means to spring back in recovery. Join us for a discussion about nurturing the resilient entrepreneur.

BIO:
Patrick Scott Pitman is curious about resilience in business and relationship.

An early developer of ecommerce technologies, Patrick advanced the capacity of entrepreneurs to sell direct to their customers starting in 1996, disrupting traditional sales channels. His innovations with an ecommerce SaaS product in the 2000's, built in the far reaches of Montana, attracted merchants from London to Silicon Valley.

Hacked by Russians, really. Hired and fired the world over. Driven to "get shit done" to the point of earning the nickname "Pitmania," Patrick has experienced first-hand the limits of a style of entrepreneurship reliant upon force: mental and physical. Today he unlearns this while playing at jiu jitsu.

Patrick is married for 20 years to author Karly Randolph Pitman with whom he's helping to grow up four children and assorted four-legged creatures. He enjoys living in dynamic Austin, Texas but gets back to ambling Montana as often as he can.
