A text I wrote while flying to the US for the first time: I'm 10 kilometers above the Atlantic ocean, flying westwards at a speed of 924km/h in a large metal tube. As the plane lifted off the ground, I got that familiar jolt in the stomach. I'm sure you know this feeling of excitement and freedom. I looked out the round window at the beautiful villages nestled between fields of crops. As I rose higher, the vast, beautiful landscape began to take shape. A landscape that humanity has entirely formed to its needs. It is incredible how much humanity has accomplished; how we have changed the narrative of our planet: This tiny blue dot stranded in an endless sea of stars at the far corner of some random galaxy. This planet finally had a purpose: To harbor and nurture the kindle of consciousness. As far as we know, it might be the only speck of light in a sheer endless universe of darkness. It is up to us to either nurture that light into a roaring fire or to let it dwindle into nothingness, thus destroying the only chance our universe has had for a purpose. There were 107 billion human lives before us, and we have to make sure there will be infinitely more to also enjoy the miracle of life.
