I've worked in every department of Printing. I started in 1980 in my family business' bindery department. I learned typesetting on a Quadritek. I've handset cold type, too! I learned camera operations and shooting halftones by the numbers and chemical tray development. I learned how to splice film to save re-shooting something. In my final years with the family business, my father allowed me to take over running the shop. I took in jobs, checking inventory of papers and ink for said jobs and making orders when necessary, usually weekly. I gained full experience in operating letterpresses, namely Kluge 12" and 15" and the Meihle verticle, which was my favorite because to run it was a work out in itself. I also ran a small Chief 15 offset press for several years.
