Bio
For more than twenty years, Nelson Guda has pursued his philosophy that life itself is a canvas for art. By pushing his life into paths that are out of the ordinary or dangerous, he formed his concept that actions are the purest form of art and are a media in themselves. Nelson produces works from his actions that are physical expressions of his efforts to understand the range of human experience – from balance and compassion to violence and ignorance. In his most recent piece, the Enemies Project, Nelson traveled to conflict zones across the globe in an attempt to bring together people from opposite sides of conflicts. The works that came out of this project ranged from heartbreakingly literal portraits to abstract blows against the inhumanity of hatred. Guda studied fine art in the US and traditional arts in Japan, and he holds a PhD in biology from the University of Texas at Austin. His work has been exhibited across the US, including the United States Senate Building, and he has spoken about his work and philosophy of art at TEDx and other conferences. Guda lives in Austin, TX.
