Here at the U.T. Horizon Fund I will be focusing on developing technical due diligence processes to help the Horizon Fund evaluate potential deals. As I’ve spent most of my professional career in technical/research realm, I look forward to better understanding the key elements for business success in the life science and technology industries. Before joining the Horizon Fund, I was a Venture Partner at Texas Venture Labs (business postdoc). I helped graduate students and entrepreneurs join forces to add value to Austin-based startup companies. It was encouraging to see multidisciplinary teams come together to solve real business problems. My PhD research involved investigating various aspects of gene expression in budding yeast (the organism that enables beer, wine and bread to be made) with an innovative and versatile reporter technology we developed. Our ultimate goal was to provide the field of cancer biology with a better understanding of the molecular details of cancer, identify druggable targets and potential chemotherapeutics, and ultimately, to change the way we fight cancer.
