• Chapman School of Seamanship, Valedictorian • Professional Mariner Training • 20+ years experience sailATX Steve Ward started sailATX in December 2015 to share sailing with Central Texans. Steve grew up around sailing in New Orleans in the ’80s. His father, Pat Ward, inspired Steve to learn and enjoy sailing. Bringing Others On Board In 1995 Steve moved to Austin and began crewing and renting boats on Lake Travis. Also that year he traveled to the British Virgin Islands for his first bareboat charter – and fell in love with it! He then started leading group trips in the Bahamas, the BVI and Puerto Rico. He has owned several boats on Lake Travis and crewed with the Ensign Series races at Austin Yacht Club. Boat School In 2005 Steve attended the Chapman School of Seamanship School in Stuart, Florida. At Chapman he was valedictorian in the Professional Mariner Training program and passed the US Coast Guard exam. Steve writes a sailing blog (sailwithsteve.com) and is an active member of the Austin Yacht Club where he is on the sail training committee and a volunteer coach for youth sailing.
