Bio

Melissa Murphy, M.A. is the Founder and Chief Communication Coach of The Pitch Academy. The Pitch Academy is a modern communication consulting firm that helps entrepreneurs and professionals pitch themselves and their ideas. She is a PhD student and award winning teacher and scholar in Organizational Communication and Technology at the University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on the negative implications of communicating online versus offline, specifically when communicating in online support communities and providing feedback to students. She has published work on web conferencing in the classroom, international crisis communication and narrative, and professionalism for students and recent college graduates. She has presented research at the National Communication Association and NISOD’s International Conference on Teaching and Leadership Excellence as well as led numerous networking and presentation skills workshops in Austin, Texas. Melissa teaches Professional Communication Skills and Organizational Communication for the Department of Communication Studies. She holds academic teaching assistant positions in Marketing Technology Innovations and Converting Technology to Wealth for the M.S. Technology Commercialization program at The University of Texas at Austin. She is a communication coach for The Red McCombs School of Business, faculty advisor for Women Communicators of Austin, and community ‘Barracuda’ mentor for young entrepreneurs at Moolah University in Austin, Texas. Recognized by the Speech Communication Association as the most outstanding graduate teacher in the state of Texas, she was also recently awarded Assistant Instructor of the Year by the Department of Communication Studies at The University of Texas at Austin.
