Be a Hero of Web Accessibility
Join OpenAIR!

What is OpenAIR?
OpenAIR—THE Accessibility Internet Rally —is a global web
accessibility competition that pairs teams of professional and
emerging web developers and designers with nonprofits that need an
accessible website. OpenAIR increases awareness of tools and
techniques that make the Internet accessible to everyone, including
people with disabilities, by training students, professional web
developers, and designers in accessibility techniques.

How does it work?
Introducing the next generation of web designers and developers to the
concepts and practices of accessibility is the key to creating a more
inclusive web. Once you’ve signed up, you will receive a firm footing
in accessibility techniques and be matched with a nonprofit
organization. You will have four weeks to complete your project. Teams
submit their work to our judges and winners will be announced at the
Awards Ceremony in Austin on May 15th, 2018.

Who participates?
Since 1998, the AIR challenge has included teams from IBM, Dell,
Google, and others.
This is your chance to collaborate with web professionals from leading
design and development companies for a worthy cause. Nonprofits that
have been part of the competition include HaShem’s House, DiverseArts
Austin, and VSATexas.

Benefits include more than eight hours of training from world-class
experts, networking opportunities with IBM, Google, Deque Systems, and
more, and the satisfaction of having created an accessible website for
a nonprofit that otherwise might not have one. Register at http://www.air-rallies.org by January 30, 2018 so we can match you with a nonprofit before the kickoff which takes place on February 8, 2018.
