As a wicked problem solver, dynamic visionary, product creator, technologist, strategic planner and business executive, David Smith has a world-renowned reputation and remarkable track-record as a global futurist. With over 30 years of experience, Mr. Smith combines his prolific gift with proprietary road mapping methodologies and systems to extract and deliver practical solutions to the world's most complex and ultra-stake challenges that demand immediate and near perfect accuracy that mitigates outcomes. While publicly renowned for his forecasting of technology trends, Mr. Smith has worked extensively in the private and public sectors, delivering his rare gift and expertise in technology transfer, strategic and technology planning, communications, roadmapping, consortia startup and management, and collaborative alliances. He has assisted in creating and implementing plans for such organizations as Bank of America, Boeing, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Coca-Cola, Compaq, US Department of Defense (DoD), Embraer, Hughes, Intel, Kodak, Kyocera, Lockheed Martin, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (formerly NIMA), National Security Agency (NSA), and Sun Microsystems. Smith excels at incubating emerging technology and market strategy for next-generation products & services. His passion and expertise at relating these emerging trends to the specific interests of clients and provides a future-focused analysis of what developments and opportunities can be expected in the near and more distant future in a particular industry or organization. Products Smith designed include a cloud appliance, which was chosen to launch as 1 of the top 5 cloud products and 1 of 3 top enterprise products at DEMO. David Smith was on the start-up teams and held key positions in two of the largest and most successful consortia in the United States—SEMATECH and the Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation (MCC). Mr. Smith served on the three-person coordination committee and the steering and implementation committees for the highly respected SIA Technology Roadmap Workshop. He also served on the CSIS steering committee drafting proposals for a new mission for the federal labs and worked on consulting projects with several national laboratories. David Smith has served in elected offices of professional associations on the local, regional, and international levels. He has been accepted into the membership of the Association of Professional Futurists. He is a recipient of the SEMATECH Eagle Award for the 1993 Strategic Plan and the Council of Consortia award for Extraordinary Contributions and Achievement in Technology Transfer. Mr. Smith is a senior research fellow at UT’s IC2 Institute, and holds a bachelor degree in Radio, Television, and Film from the University of Texas at Austin.
