The IIA Albuquerque Chapter Presents Ravin Catlin Risk Management Using the 3 Lines of Defense and COSO ERM 2017 for Auditors Course Overview: Are you looking to implement an ERM process? Is your company struggling with practical application of the 3 lines of defense model? Are you tasked with providing assurance on the risk management practices? Do you need a concise resource to understand the updated COSO ERM framework (released 2017)? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, this two-day seminar is for you Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) is an intellectual, scholastic exercise for some and a meaningful, value added contribution to effective strategic and operational management to others. Which side of the spectrum is your organization? Participants develop a strong foundation in risk management through exploration of a variety of risk management models. We will review the major changes of the COSO ERM 2017 framework and then define roles and responsibilities of those internal and external to the organization. This seminar explores the 3 lines of defense, examines the COSO components, and maps roles and responsibilities with each component. Through facilitated group discussions, individual activities, and small group exercises, participants will learn the key elements and requirements of COSO ERM 2017 and what to look for to evaluate ERM effectiveness. Your facilitator will provide insights to COSO ERM implementation projects and “refresh” projects for COSO ERM 2017. We will discuss culture, governance, risk appetite, and technology and its impact to internal audit activities. Participants completing the course will understand and assess the following through group activities: Where is your organization today? Who should make key ERM decisions (risk appetite, risk tolerance, ERM policy, risk assessment strategies, risk quantification methods, ERM reporting needs/dashboard reports)? How do you effectively evaluate your organization’s ERM maturity?
