This annual event increases awareness of natural resources in the state and stresses the continuing need to protect and improve these resources, while connecting groups, agencies, and people working for healthy Kansas ecosystems. This year’s plenary discussion, “Celebrating Conservation Past & Present,” will feature Dr. Mamie Parker, former assistant director for the US Fish and Wildlife Service, Lance Irving of the Sand County Foundation, and Howard Vincent of Pheasants Forever/Quail Forever. A welcome social on Thursday night will provide ample networking opportunities, and a student/mentor breakfast on Friday morning will allow students additional time to discuss career goals with seasoned professionals. Registration for the full conference is available online at www.kansasnrc.org. Cost for the two-day conference is $120 for professionals and $60 for students, with some student scholarships available for those presenting research. A pre-conference workshop, “Tools for Engaging Landowners Effectively” will be held 8am - Noon on Thursday January 31 for the additional cost of $20 per person. Speakers from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies as well as the Kansas Forest Service will provide an overview of key concepts to engage landowners in natural resources outreach programs.
