Interested in volunteering for We Are Girls Austin??? Date: Saturday, November 3, 2018Time: 9am-3pmLocation: Anderson High School (8403 Mesa Dr., Austin, TX 78759) The We Are Girls Conference, produced by Girls Empowerment Network (GEN), are annually held in Austin, Houston and Dallas and are designed especially for 3rd – 8th grade girls and the adults who care about them. With dynamic break-out sessions and featured speakers, girls get to be totally in charge of their day. They walk away inspired by what’s possible and with a stronger belief in their personal power. The 2018-2019 conference theme is “Ignite Her Power.” Volunteer positions are available for people of all genders and ages, including high school students. Conference tickets cost $30 per person and over 50% of attendees receive scholarships. This year’s We Are Girls Austin Conference is being held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 9am – 3pm, at Anderson High School. If you’re interested in volunteering with We Are Girls Austin, read through the position descriptions below and choose the volunteer role that interests you. You are able to choose more than one shift as long as the times don't overlap. You can only register for yourself. Individuals are not permitted to register groups of people. IMPORTANT NOTE: There is a mandatory volunteer training taking place at Anderson High School on Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 11:30am-1pm. Two weeks prior to the volunteer training, you will receive an email with location, parking, and logistics information for the volunteer training. The We Are Girls Conference is in need of volunteers in the following capacities: PLEASE ENSURE THAT THE TIMES OF THE VOLUNTEER POSITIONS YOU ARE REGISTERED FOR DO NOT OVERLAP BY MORE THAN 15 MINUTES. -Workshop Assistant-- from 9:45am to 3:15pm. This is an all day position that cannot be split into shifts. Workshop assistants assist the speakers with their workshops. They introduce the speaker, provide support to girls attending the breakout session, and administer the conference evaluations. THIS POSITION IS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR ADULT WOMEN ONLY. -Registration-- from 7:30am to 10:30am. These volunteers check-in all of the attendees, give them the necessary materials, and direct attendees as needed. -Information Desk-- from 7:30am to 11:45am AND/OR 11:30am to 3:30pm. These volunteers will be stationed in a central location to answer questions, provide support to conference attendees, and will be responsible for going to each classroom after every breakout session and collecting evaluations. -Speaker Check-in-- from 8:00am to 11:45am AND/OR 11:30 to 3:15pm. These volunteers will be stationed at a table where the workshop providers can check-in, ask questions, and fill out a survey about their experience. -Lunch-- from 10:15am to 2pm. These volunteers serve our boxed lunches to the attendees. They will ensure that all speakers receive lunch and that the lunch process runs smoothly. -Hospitality-- from 7:30am to 11:45am AND/OR 11:30 to 2:45pm. These volunteers will help keep our hospitality room neat and clean. They will also ensure that all speakers and volunteers receive lunch. -Audio-Visual Support-- from 9:30am to 2:15pm. We need support this year from individuals familiar with projectors/laptops who feel comfortable troubleshooting any issues that the speakers encounter while hooking up their technology before their sessions. -SPIRIT SQUAD/Directional Assistance-- from 7:30am to 11:45am AND/OR 11:30 to 3:15pm. These volunteers are in charge of bringing joy, energy, and enthusiasm to the conference! They will have a large role at the conference's kick-off rally, and these volunteers shouldn't be shy about getting on stage and getting people pumped! Throughout the day you'll engage with girls, lead chants, answer any questions that the attendees have, and help folks find their way to workshop sessions. -Gym and Performing Arts Center Assistant--from 7:30am to 11:45am AND/OR 11:30 to 3:15pm. The PAC is going to be a busy place throughout the day. We need people help administer evaluations and ensure that the featured conference speakers have everything that they need. THIS POSITION IS ONLY AVAILABLE FOR WOMEN. -GENcarnival-- from 10:30am to 2:15pm. The gym carnival is going to be a bustling and lively place during lunch! After people have finished their lunches, they will come up to the gym to participate in games and activities before their next session starts. Volunteers will help lead games and stations. High school students are encouraged to volunteer in this role, however, it's open to everyone! -Facepainting- from 10:30am to 2:15pm. Facepainting will be taking place in the gym during the GENcarnival and it is so POPULAR. This year we are going the extra mile to ensure that all girls that would like their faces painted have that opportunity. Get ready to get creative! -Event Set-Up-- this opportunity will take place on Friday, November 3rd (5:30-8:30pm) and will involve helping GEN set up Anderson High School. This means unloading supplies, hanging signs, etc. THIS POSITION DOES NOT REQUIRE YOU TO ATTEND THE VOLUNTEER TRAINING. -Phone Bank-- this opportunity is scheduled for Wednesday, October 24th from 6pm-8pm and Thursday, November 1st from 6-8pm at the Girls Empowerment Network office (3000 S IH 35, Austin, TX, 78704). We will be calling several of our workshop attendees and registering them over the phone as well as making reminder calls. Dinner will be provided for all participating volunteers.
