Over 40 area organizations and agencies make up the Early Childhood Coalition of Greater Wichita County. One of our goals is to educate our community about Adverse Childhood Experiences. The documentary "Resilience, The Biology of Stress and the Science of Hope", shares the research of Dr. Vince Felitti and Dr.Robert Anda. This research shows a connection between childhood toxic stress and adult physical and mental illness. Additionally, it shows how many communities have come together to address the crisis of Adverse Childhood Experiences. The Fighting ACEs Community Empowerment Summit (FACES) is a time for all aspects of our community (educators, city/county government, law enforcement, social workers, health care, parents, etc.) to come together to learn about and discuss how ACEs is effecting our community and what we can do to address this crisis. Our guest leader, Laura Porter, an expert in helping leaders use Adverse Childhood Experience concepts to build self-healing communities, will share her work in this field and lead us in professional group discussions. Our ultimate dream is to one day have a community plan in place that will address these issues!
