Event Details

Join us on Friday September 14, 2018 at 204 Marshall McLuhan Hall (UMSU University Centre) of University of Manitoba (Fort Garry Campus) for a day-long science symposium that explores the past, present and future of IISD Experimental Lakes Area—the world's freshwater laboratory. The day will consist of a series of vibrant presentations and discussions on our unique approach of whole ecosystem research and the policy impact it has had around the globe. We will take you on a journey from the early days of exploring the role of phosphorus on algal blooms and the value of whole-lake experimentation, to groundbreaking research on synthetic estrogen, reservoirs and dams, selenium and oil spills. Key figures from the history of the site will be presenting, along with researchers who are now pushing the site, and its research portfolio, forward into the next 50 years. Registration: 8:00-8:30 a.m. Program: starts at 8:30 a.m. Lunch: noon-1:00 p.m. If you're an IISD-ELA alumnus, please then join us the day after to reunite with all of your alumni friends and celebrate your time at the world's freshwater laboratory. More details here. Please RSVP by Friday, September 7, 2018
