Join the ASU Library Map and Geospatial Hub for this two-hour workshop on working with digital elevation model (DEM) data in a free, open source geographic information system (GIS).This hands-on workshop will describe the structure of raster elevation surfaces; identify good, free sources of DEM data at multiple spatial resolutions; and do some common processing and 2D/3D visualization of these data for basic topographic and related analyses.  We'll be using a free, open source GIS called QGIS.  Twenty (20) desktop computer workstations are available for this workshop. Alternatively, participants can perform the workshop activities using their personal laptop computers. Participants intending to use their own computers may want to pre-install the free software needed to follow along with workshop activities:-- QGIS -- http://www.qgis.org/en/site/forusers/download.html Please see the full calendar of Map and Geospatial Hub events.
