We are kicking of the 2018-2019 event season of the Sonoran Collaborative with a workshop on Achieving the Living Building Challenge in Arizona. The Living Building Challenge is the most rigorous sustainable building certification system currently out there. The Sonoran Collaborative is here to facilitate Living Buildings with a mission of creating more regenerative projects in Arizona. Let’s remind the world how to live sustainably in the desert. The workshop will review projects currently in design, construction and Certified under one of the Living Building Certifications. The group will facilitate general audience discussion on challenges and lessons learned from designing and building LBC projects. Jones Studio is our gracious host once again and will be providing snacks and beer on tap at their beautiful office. Speakers for this event will be Matthew Salenger of CoLAB Studio and Prem Sundharam of DLR Group. Matthew Salenger, CoLAB Studio Matthew is an artist, architect, and co-founder/managing partner of coLAB studio. Matthew studied figure painting and architecture for 10 years, and graduated with honors from the Architectural Association of London in 1999. His volunteer work is dedicated to improving social and economic conditions, including his co-founding of the Urban Choices Group in 2012 and the Citizens for a Vibrant Apache Corridor group in 2014, both dedicated to improving thriving downtown areas in Arizona. Matthew is a facilitator and ambassador of the ILFI, as well as head of the local Living Building Challenge Collaborative. Prem Sundharam of DLR Group Prem is an industry recognized thought leader on sustainability and high performance building design. A principal with DLR Group, Prem has more than a decade of experience in sustainable design practices and works with integrated design teams across the firm to produce high performance design solutions for clients in every market sector. As the Global Sustainability Leader at DLR Group, he leads firm wide performance based design initiatives and develops long-term strategies for a more environmentally responsible design practice. Prem has served on the board of USGBC Arizona Chapter and has been recognized as an emerging leader by the Design Futures Council in 2014. He regularly speaks at regional and national industry events and his work has been published in magazines, books and engineering journals. He holds a Master of Architecture and a Bachelor of Engineering. He is a Certified Energy Manager and a certified Building Energy Modeling Professional and has taught courses on net-zero energy design and simulation. His leadership and contribution to the industry has been recognized by his alma-mater, Iowa State University College of Design with a Design Achievement Award in 2015.
