Join Cummins, an international engineering company and Iridescent, a global STEM education non-profit, as they convene an AI-Education-Big Data panel and discussion August 28th in Indianapolis. Panelists from industry, academia, research and education will identify steps organizations and industry leaders can take to address the widening gap between rapidly advancing technology and underserved communities, including: How can AI help amplify what makes us more human – bridging boundaries across home, school, work, and communities? What are some best practices across different sectors for determining what types of data to collect, how to analyze and how to apply findings? What immediate small steps can parents and educators take to begin learning more about AI technologies, and getting children more excited about creating, building and innovating? Hear a diverse set of innovative ideas around how to prepare the education sector and society as a whole for the AI revolution. We train parents, professional engineers, and scientists to deliver cutting-edge STEM education to children and their families around the world. Speakers Angela Braly, The Policy Circle and The Braly Group Angela Braly is co-founder of The Policy Circle and founded The Braly Group. She currently serves on the board of directors of The Proctor & Gamble Company and Lowe’s Companies, Inc., Brookfield Asset Management, Exxon Mobil, and the Indiana Economic Development Corporation. She previously ran the second largest health insurer in the U.S., Wellpoint, for over 10 years - impacting the health of 1 in 9 Americans. Madhavi Isanaka, Cummins Madhavi Isanaka is the Executive Director of Information Technology at Cummins. She is leading Digital Accelerator IT, enabling company-wide digital strategy. She has been with Cummins for over 19 years and has led several large transformational enterprise initiatives. She championed Corporate Responsibility for Cummins Power Generation to leverage 50+ non-profit partnerships & improve the communities in which the company operates globally. Jacob Koressel, Indiana Department of Education Originally from Evansville, Indiana, Jacob Koressel studied Secondary Mathematics and Computer Education at Indiana University, Bloomington. He began his career in education at Brown County High School in Nashville, Indiana, where he taught math and computer science. He later earned a master’s degree in Instructional Systems Technology and currently serves as the Computer Science Specialist at the Indiana Department of Education. Joan Freese, PBS Twin Cities Joan Freese is an educational technologist at Twin Cities PBS, where she focuses on projects for K-8 audiences, parents, and teachers and is the Project Director for the Ready To Learn initiative. She is the PrincipaI Investigator for SciGirls Code, a national program supported by the National Science Foundation’s STEM + Computing Partnerships Program. She also manages Splash Screen: Students Engaging Local Watersheds Using Mobile Technologies. Yexiang Xue, Purdue University Yexiang Xue is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Purdue University. His research focuses on scalable and accurate probabilistic reasoning techniques, statistical modeling of data, and robust decision-making under uncertainty. Yexiang’s work received the Innovative Application Award at IAAI-17 and was featured as the cover article and the Editor’s choice in the Combinatorial Science of the American Chemical Society Journal. Glenda Akers, Salesforce Marketing Cloud Glenda Akers currently serves as COO of Salesforce Marketing Cloud in Indianapolis and has been a board member for TechPoint, a growth accelerator for Indiana's tech ecosystem, for the past year. Glenda has over 30 years of experience in product development with a focus on mobility, security and cloud solutions and has managed product organizations in both startups and Fortune 500 corporations (MCI, Sybase, SAP).
