Event Details
Each free Astronomy on Tap event features accessible, engaging science presentations on topics ranging from planets to black holes to galaxies to the beginning of the Universe. You can expect plenty of beer to be flowing, three engaging short presentations, followed by discussion and Q&A. FREE - open to the general public TICKETS REQUIRED for entry to event. DOORS at 6:30pm TALK BEGINS: 7pm Speaker 1: Dr. Amanda Hendrix Talk Title: Cassini’s Spectacular Mission at Saturn Bio: Amanda R. Hendrix is a Senior Scientist with the Planetary Science Institute, based in Boulder. She worked for twelve years at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and was the Deputy Project Scientist for the Cassini–Huygens mission (2010-2012). She has been a scientific investigator on the Cassini, Galileo and Lunar Reconnaissance missions, a principal investigator on NASA research and Hubble Space Telescope observing programs, and is the author of many scientific papers. Her science focus is on moons in the solar system, including Earth’s moon and those of Jupiter and Saturn, their composition and evolution. She is the director of NASA’s Toolbox for Research and Exploration (TREX). She co-authored Beyond Earth: Our Path to a new Home in the Planets, published by Penguin/Random house in Nov 2016. Hendrix received a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and an M.S. and Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering Sciences from the University of Colorado Boulder. Speaker 2: Dr. Brad Dober Talk Title: BLAST - Studying Star formation from the Stratosphere Bio: Dr. Bradley Dober is a National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow in the Quantum Devices Group at the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Here, he is focused on developing cryogenic readout techniques for the next-generation of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) imagers, such as Simons Observatory, Keck Array, Ali-CPT, and CMB-S4. Dr. Dober received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Pennsylvania under Professor Mark Devlin. There, his research focused on developing the cryogenic detectors and readout system for the Next Generation Balloon-borne Large Aperture Submillimeter Telescope (BLAST-TNG), which aims to study the role that magnetic fields play in star formation. Speaker 3: Dr. Quyen Hart Talk Title: Astronomy in the News Bio: Quyen Hart is an astronomer and faculty member at Regis University. Hart teaches physics and astronomy at all levels and is very passionate about astronomy outreach to all age groups. Hart is one of the founding members of Astronomy on Tap Colorado and has helped to organize events since 2015. She holds a BS, MS, and PhD in astronomy and astrophysics, has studied binary stars, disks of matter around stars, sunlight through the Earth’s atmosphere, and active supermassive black holes in clusters of galaxies. Hart will be hosting an “Astronomy in the News” segment at this AoT CO event. EVENT NOTES: Please arrive early to select a beer, enjoy the food truck and select your seats. Please know that if you are late, you may forfeit your reserved seat. No tickets required to enter taproom. Guests without tickets are welcome to line up at the entry to the talk to fill up unused seats. Un-ticketed guests may select from remaining seats at 7pm, once admitted by venue staff but not prior out of respect for tickets holders.
