The Fort Smith Bicentennial Committee hasannounced that four-time Grammy nominee and beloved family and children’smusical group Trout Fishing in America will perform a special concert in honor ofthe city’s 200th birthday Saturday, August 4, 2018, 1:00 pm, at the Fort SmithConvention Center, 800 Rogers Ave., Fort Smith. Only 500 tickets will beavailable for the concert and it is expected to sell out quickly. Tickets for $5 perperson can be purchased on Eventbrite. Admission for children ages two andunder is free. Keith Grimwood and Ezra Idlet are the musicians of Trout Fishing in America.The two-man acoustic combo’s website describes them as “an eclectic folk/rockband perhaps best known for family/children’s music. Songs like “My Hair Had aParty Last Night,” “18 Wheels on a Big Rig,” and “When I Was a Dinosaur” haveearned them a place in the hearts of kids and parents everywhere. Besides theirquirky and memorable children focused performances, Trout has electrifiedfestivals and performing arts centers across North America with their deepcatalogue of “adult” songs. Also, on August 4, at 2:30 pm, Mayor Sandy Sanders and the BicentennialCommittee will host a special Time Capsule Burial Ceremony at PendergraftPark, 200 Garrison Avenue, Fort Smith. Following the Time Capsule burial ceremony, an Ice Cream Social will behosted at approx. 3:00 pm at the Fort Smith Museum of History, at 320 RogersAve., Fort Smith. There is no charge for the ice cream social. Mayor Sandy Sanders says this concert will be highlight of the year-longbicentennial celebration that began December 25, 2017. “This represents theculmination of four years of planning, and there are many, many citizens whohave volunteered their time to make this year something very special for ourcitizens to enjoy and remember. To commemorate our 200 years of history is nosmall matter and the volunteers wanted to make sure the calendar of eventsincluded entertainment that appeals to all generations. Trout Fishing in Americawas the perfect fit for that and we are happy to have them back in Fort Smith forsuch a special occasion.”
