The 2018 Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Awards Gala is all about LEAVING LEGACIES. Distinguished state senator and beloved Louisiana Superintendent of Education, Cecil J. Picard, had an enormously positive impact on the Louisiana educational system. He was a teacher's teacher, a coach's coach, and a superintendent's superintendent. Why? He will long be remembered for establishing kindergarten for all Louisiana public schools. But when asked what they remember about "Cecil," most teachers will tell you that they simply liked him because he understood and appreciated what they did in their classrooms everyday. His passion for TEACHERS was evident in his role as the state's chief education administrator. The 12th Annual Awards Gala will highlight 48 exceptional educators---24 Teachers and 24 Principals who will vie for the the coveted title of Teacher of the Year and Principal of the Year. These outstanding candidates exemply the best of the best in Louisiana education. They, too, are creating a LEGACY for Louisiana's children. Each is having a positive impact on the lives of their students as they prepare for college or a career. We HONOR them and hold them up for as evidence that LOUISIANA BELIEVES in the future of every child. The 48 Teacher/Principal of the Year Honorees will be joined by two Milken Educator Award winners. The finalists for the H. Norman Saurage III Service Award will be presented and the 2018 winner of the prestigious award that recognizes exceptional community service outside of the classroom will be revealed. The black-tie optional event culminates with the announcement of the 2019 Principal of the Year and the 2019 Teacher of the Year.
