Are there other habitable Earth-like planets? How long will it take to put a human on Mars? Who “owns” space? What is the path to becoming an astronaut? Please join us for an exciting conversation on the future of space exploration with Dr. Kathleen Rubins (NASA Astronaut, Stanford Ph.D. '05) & Ms. Kendra Short (Deputy Program Manager/NASA Exoplanet Exploration, Stanford M.S. ’92). After the presentation session, Q&A will be moderated by Ms. Tess Hatch (Venture Investor at Bessemer Venture Partners, Stanford M.S. ’17). Doors open at 5:00pm. Free event. Seating is first come, first serve. Biographies: Dr. Kathleen Rubins was selected to be an astronaut by NASA in 2009. Rubins completed her first spaceflight on Expedition 48/49, where she became the first person to sequence DNA in space. She spent 115 days in space and conducted two spacewalks. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology from the University of California and a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from Stanford University. Ms. Kenda Short has worked 27 years at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab, currently serving as the deputy program manager for NASA’s Exoplanet Exploration program, Short will help identify the most promising missions in the search for new worlds throughout our galaxy—and for signs of life among them. She will help steer a path for existing missions, providing oversight and guidance and working to build alliances throughout the scientific community.
