Event Details
These activities vary in time, location, price and duration. All youth ages 8-14 years are welcome to participate. Please read each event description below carefully, and select the corresponding ticket for your chosen activity. JUNIOR MASTER GARDENER (JMG) - This is an international youth gardening program of the university cooperative Extension network. JMG engages children in novel, "hands-on" group and individual learning experiences that provide a love of gardening, develop an appreciation for the enrivonment, and cultivate the mind. JMG will be offered in three different sessions, meeting one day per week for 5 weeks, at the Garfield County Fairgrounds in the North Hall. Cost is $15. Choose ONE option: MONDAYS 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM (6/4, 6/11, 6/18, 6/25, 7/9) TUESDAYS 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM (6/5, 6/12, 6/19, 6/26, 7/10) Taught with the assistance of a Spanish translator. Ayuda de un traductor de espanol. WEDNESDAYS 8:30 AM - 10:30 AM (6/6, 6/13, 6/20, 6/27, 7/11) LEARN, GROW, EAT, GO! (LGEG) - This active and engaging curriculum combines gardening knowledge and practice with healthy eating and activity. LGEG will take place each Friday in June and July (except June 1) at the Rifle Branch Library from 11:00 a.m. - noon. Cost is free. Pre-register or Drop-in. Attend any or all. OUTDOOR DAY-CAMP - Participants will have a chance to explore their own backyard and all the wonder that it holds! Activities will be centered around environmental education, outdoor activities and survival skills. A light out-door style dinner is included. This event will take place at Lion's Pond and Trail Area, north-west of the I-70 interchange in Rifle. Cost is $25. THURSDAY, JUNE 14; 1:00 PM - 7:00 PM R.I.D.E. Horse and Animal Science Day Camp - Instructors will focus on horsemanship ground skills (no riding), other animal science activities, and outdoor science activities. Participants will need to bring a sack lunch; water and snacks will be provided. Drop-off and pick-up are on your own, transportation will NOT be available. This Camp will meet for one day at Riding Institute for Disable Equestrian's arena and ranch, located at 2804 County Road 250, north of Silt. Cost is $25. Two different sessions will be offered, choose ONE option: WEDNESDAY, JUNE 20; 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM WEDNESDAY, JULY 25; 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM CUPCAKE WARS - Youth will learn baking, frosting and decorating techniques in preparation for the TV-style competition! This will be a 2-day event, to be held at the Garfield County Fairgrounds in the North Hall. Cost is $10. THURSDAY & FRIDAY, JUNE 28-29; 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM BOOK CLIFF ARTS - The following programs will take place at the BookCliff Arts Center, located at 1100 East 16th Street in Rifle. JEWELRY MAKING - TUESDAYS 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM; 8 week session (6/5, 6/12, 6/19, 6/26, 7/3, 7/10, 7/17, 7/24) Learn techniques to make jewlery by hand, using many recycled and repurposed techniques. Parents are encouraged to participate, as well! Cost is $5 per participant for all 8 classes. GARDENING - FRIDAYS 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM; Come help plant, grow and harvest a garden together!
