Watch entrepreneurial scientists pitch their business plans at the Weill Cornell Medicine BioVenture eLabs Biomedical Business Plan Challenge! Teams will compete for $100,000 in cash prizes and $35,000 in legal services from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati! 2017 Awards presented by Dr. Lewis C. Cantley, Meyer Director of the Sandra and Edward Meyer Cancer Center at Weill Cornell Medical College/Ronald P. Stanton Clinical Cancer Program at NewYork-Presbyterian, Professor of Cancer Biology in Medicine; Co-Founder, Agios Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: AGIO); Co-Founder, Petra Pharma Refreshments and hors d'oeuvres will be served. 2017 Judges Included: David Fischell Ph.D. Chief Executive Officer, Angel Medical Systems Dr. David Fischell is an inventor and serial entrepreneur who has founded 14 biomedical device companies in the last 20 years, including 5 current companies: Angel Medical Systems (CEO), eNeura, Inc (Director); NeuroPace, Inc. Svelte Medical Systems and Ablative Solutions (Chairman). After earning his Cornell Ph.D. in Applied and Engineering Physics, David joined Bell Laboratories in 1979 where, for 11 years, he performed and directed a wide range of research and development projects including leading an internal venture and leading the effort to develop an integrated platform in the AT&T network for AT&T's first enhanced voice service, InfoworxTM. He left Bell Labs in 1991 to work full time on medical devices. He currently has 162 issued U.S. patents and has published numerous papers in the fields of telecommunications, cardiology, radiobiology, and radiation dosimetry. He was the primary designer of the BX Velocity™ and Cypher™ Stents for Cordis, a Johnson & Johnson Company that were implanted in more than 7 million patients. Cypher was the world's first drug eluting stent. David's patents have had significant impact in the commercialization of medical devices for the treatments of cardiovascular disease, epilepsy, diabetes, and migraine headaches. Dr. David Fischell has received numerous awards and recognitions including his 1990 award for his design of the architecture of the AT&T network platform for enhanced voice services and election as a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. He was elected to the Cornell University Board of Trustees in 2008 and the Weill Cornell Medicine Board of Overseers in 2016. He holds an appointment as adjunct professor, is chairman of the Cornell Department of Biomedical Engineering Advisory Council and was instrumental in the department's founding in 2004. He was selected as Medical Device and Diagnostic Industry Magazine's 100 Notable People June 2008. He was a regional winner of the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2013 and elected to the National Academy of Inventors in 2016. Andrew Schiff, MD Managing Partner, Aisling Capital Andrew Schiff, MD joined Aisling Capital at its inception and currently serves as one of the Managing Partners. Prior to Aisling Capital, Dr. Schiff practiced internal medicine for six years at New-York Presbyterian Hospital, where he maintains his position as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine. Dr. Schiff currently serves as a director of ARMGO Pharma, PowerVision, Zavante (observer) and ZELTIQ Aesthetics. Prior Board service includes Adams Respiratory Therapeutics, Agile Therapeutics ArgiNOx Pharmaceuticals, Barrier Therapeutics, Bioenvision, CardioKine, Cempra Pharmaceuticals, Miramar Labs, Myogen, SkinMedica, Sirion Therapeutics, TransEnterix and Quintiles (Board observer). He is a longtime supporter and Board member of the Visiting Nurse Service of New York. Dr. Schiff received his M.D. from Cornell University Medical College, his M.B.A. from Columbia University, and his B.S. with honors in Neuroscience from Brown University. Vincent Tang Principal, Samsung NEXT Vincent Tang is a Principal at Samsung NEXT Start in New York. In his current role, Vin backs early stage founders, whether through seed capital or the in-residence program. Previously, he was as an applied machine learning engineer with Clarapath/New York Genome Center and Bear Stearns after earning his degree from Carnegie Mellon. In his spare time, he mentors at NYU's AI NexusLab, 37 Angels, and TechStars.
