Join us for a panel discussion with Latinx from different backgrounds sharing their experiences dealing with biases, salary negotiations and promoting diversity at work. Our speakers include a designer, a founder, a VC and an engineer whose career experiences can provide valuable advice for up and coming Latinx professionals. Each person's unique circumstance will help shed light on workplace issues we commonly face and how to tackle them effectively. Our goal for the event is to bring together like-minded people, create a sense of unity and break through the biases that so often plague our working environments. After attending, we hope each attendee walks away with a little more determination, confidence and some real action items on how to drive Diversity and Inclusion in the workplace. Having successfully transitioned into the industry, she now regularly devotes time to supporting and guiding new programmers. Paola also has years of experience as a community organizer and currently serves as advisor to the Women in iOS Meetup and the Latinas in Tech community. Jorge M. Torres Venture capital investor, attorney, and teacher.  Jorge was an early member of the team at Silas Capital, an early-stage investment firm that provides capital to entrepreneurs building high-growth branded consumer businesses. As the firm's first Venture Partner, Jorge invested in brands such as CASPER, RINGLY, TRACKSMITH, and others. As an angel investor, he invested personally in companies such as Trusted Insight (online network for institutional investors) and True Bridge Capital Partners (venture capital fund-of- funds). He is also the co-founder and Managing Director at Venseed, a platform that helps emerging investment managers start enduring venture capital firms. As an attorney, Jorge counsels entrepreneurs on new company formation, early-stage financings, intellectual property, and other legal aspects of starting high-impact for-profit, non-profit, and social impact ventures. Given his investing background, private and public markets investors often call upon Jorge to provide a clearer picture of the legal risks of investing in technology companies, especially risks related to patent law. As an educator, Jorge designed curricula and served on the faculty of Kauffman Fellows, the premier international leadership and continuing professional development program for people who invest in innovation. He also designed the curriculum for The Business of Venture Capital, a seminar he teaches at Yale on the history and purpose of venture capital; the practical details of venture investing; and advanced topics on business models, technology ecosystems, and investor ethics. Jorge holds a BS in molecular biophysics and biochemistry from Yale and a JD from the University of Pennsylvania Law School. He is 2013 graduate of Kauffman Fellows, and he mentors entrepreneurs in New York, Puerto Rico, and beyond through his affiliations with Founder Institute and Endeavor Global. Jorge publishes a market intelligence newsletter for the venture capital industry called Venture Stack (www.venturestack.co). Rebecca  Karr  As Co-Founder of beetbox, Rebecca is passionate about creating powerful ways to improve the interactions between teachers and their students. Creating solutions utilizing a turn key subscription box service for preschools is her foremost role at beetbox. Rebecca tend to wear many hats - whether its developing S.T.E.A.M curricula, formulating an effective sales strategy, or perfecting product management. Beetbox is a new approach to education. Angela Medina @gela_medina As a devoted product designer, Angela has been designing digital experiences for over 10 years. Her past work in agencies, media and tech companies includes a wide variety of projects. She’s contributed to successful digital ad applications for Dodge and Fiat and led the redesign of TechCrunch’s mobile applications. Currently, she works at Updater, a tech startup improving the moving process for Americans. As a proud Colombian, Angela cares deeply about inclusion in Tech. She’s also passionate about social good, education, mentoring aspiring designers, a waste free world, animals, traveling and good food. Angela has lived in Bogota, Miami, San Francisco and currently lives in Brooklyn, NY with her husband and cat. Moderated by Tatiana CarettHealthcare professional with 20 years of collective experience in health service delivery, technology implementation, healthcare management/operations, public health and managed care/insurance. She is passionate about strengthening health systems to improve access to care and quality improvement via the implementation of the health technologies.
