The Austin Forum on Technology & Society in partnership with Austin Public Library presents Drones: Changing Business, Agriculture, Security, and More with Craig Nehrkorn, Drone Dynamics Tuesday, April 3, 2018 Austin Central Library - Event Center 710 W Cesar Chavez St, Austin, TX 787015:45 p.m. – Doors Open6:15 p.m. – Presentation, Q&A7:30 p.m. – Networking reception Drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), have gained popularity among hobbyists, but they have been used for other applications for many years. In addition to surveillance and defense applications, drones are now being used for consumer and business applications ranging from photography to delivery, from surveying to security monitoring, from facilities monitoring to precision agriculture. As drones integrate better cameras and sensors and utilizing ‘smarter’ control systems, including AI-enabled flight decisions and object classification, the uses will continue to rise. Will it become common to see drones in our skies delivering packages, providing security, supporting aid efforts, and more? Come find out the present state and future of drones, and how you can get engaged in this technology capability. We welcome your participation! Please send us your questions, answers and prognostications in advance at [email protected]. Admission to the Austin Forum is always free. The Austin Forum accepts donations of used cell phones and smart phones at all our events. All devices will have a factory reset and be set up as new by the team at Austin Pathways’ nationally-recognized “Unlocking the Connection” initiative, which will connect every public housing resident with a digital device, digital literacy, and a free or very low-cost internet connection. Your donated phone can change lives and help close Austin's digital divide, thanks to Austin Pathways. Thanks to Austin Public Library for their partnership.
