Some 4,000 people came. Best show ever. Andy Jassy came on stage and denounced private cloud and blamed the traditional vendors for redefining the term “cloud”.  “Every business we run [fits that model] and most of the old guard don’t like those types of business, which is why they’re pushing private cloud because it doesn’t disrupt their businesses,” said Jassy during his keynote. A highlight of the first re:Invent was the announcement of Amazon Redshift. Designed as a scalable, more economical and easy-to-use alternative to traditional on-premise data warehousing, AWS launched Redshift to meet the continuing demand for storing and querying large volumes of clean, structured data. It was a step change for data practitioners.  RE:INVENT 2017 - A DATA REVOLUTION Fast forward to 2017, and we're expecting over 40,000 people to attend. Werner Vogels meanwhile called Amazon Redshift "our fastest service ever". Redshift has caused a sea change in how companies use data in their business. But we do miss the days when it was only 4,000. An intimate exhibition floor, familiar faces, networking over coffee. When it was easy to meet people who were facing similar challenges.  We're in the data business.
