Event Description A key component of the effectiveness of behavioral intervention requires accurate and efficient assessment practices. A variety of tools have been established within the behavioral and psychological sciences with new tools coming out and in development constantly. A unique group of practitioners will gather for a 1-day event to discuss various perspectives, research, and applications developing within the behavioral realm. Attendees will earn 6 Type II BACB CEUs Goals of the event: Provide a cost-effective continuing education event on assessment practices from a variety of perspectives for a variety of professional disciplines. Increase awareness of and membership of the host organizations (VABA & DBA SIG of ABAI) Provide an opportunity for sponsors to share the knowledge and research that they have on assessment practices with a larger audience. Who Should Attend? While fluency is not marked by high rates per se, but rather application, endurance, and retention, many of the examples provided in PT literature are examples of high-rate academic learning targets. However, a little-known project of Ogden Lindsley’s called “The Behavior Bank” may have been a technology which could carry PT principles far beyond rate-building for academic targets. These issues will be explored, and will be exemplified through discussion of a broadly-applicable assessment tool currently in development at High Sierra Industries in Reno, NV. 10:30-10:45 Break 10:45am to 12:00pm Style: Presentation Speaker: Megan Miller, PhD, BCBA-D Topic: ABLLS-R, AFLS, VBMAPP, ESDM, PEAK!?!? Choosing the Right Assessment for Your Learner with Autism Abstract: A variety of assessment options exist for identifying skills to target for learners diagnosed with Autism and other developmental disabilities. Many practitioners are trained on a specific assessment with little regard to the appropriateness of that assessment for the learner. This presentation discusses how to individualize the assessment process to create the most effective intervention program for each learner. 12:00pm to 2:00pm Lunch on your Own 2:00pm to 3:45 pm Style: Presentation / Workshop Speaker: BehaviorMe Topic: How Technology May Change the Way We Conduct Assessments Abstract: As technology proliferates to all aspects of our lives and practice, the behavior analyst must prepare to accept, adapt, and use these technologies to operate more efficiently. Technology will have an impact on assessments, how data is collected, and how treatments are conducted. Smartphones and their applications were just the tip of the iceberg. This talk will focus on how the behavior analyst, may in the near future, use virtual reality, augmented reality, and the internet of things (IoT) as part of their daily operations. The last half will focus on beta testing three simulations developed by BehaviorMe, Inc. and workshop style discussion. 3:45 to 4:00 Break 4:00pm to 5:00pm Style: Panel Discussion Speakers: Dr. Megan Miller, BCBA-D, Megan Kirby, BCBA, Melissa Engasser, BCBA & Beth Newcomb, BCBA, LBA Topic: Supervision Needs Assessment Too! Abstract: Effective supervision requires baseline and ongoing assessment of supervisee skill set and knowledge base relating to behavior analysis. Each panelist will discuss how their agency or organization assesses supervisees to create individualized and effective fieldwork experience opportunities. Who’s Hosting? A host is an organization that is helping with the event behind the scenes to ensure it’s success. They are not contributing directly to the monetary costs of the event; however, they are donating significant time, skills and expertise. Any remaining funds after covering the cost of the venue space will be split amongst our hosts evenly. Dissemination of Behavior Analysis Special Interest Group of the Association of Behavior Analysis International (DBA SIG of ABAI) Mission: To disseminate the science of human behavior to the public at large, through the use of easy to understand explanations. Our goal is to promote behavior analysis in a positive and accurate light, to help society realize the potential of our science. DBA SIG of ABAI’s Role in the event: Members of the DBA SIG of ABAI will assist in distributing the event to their established channels and be responsible for assisting in reaching people that are outside behavior analytic professions and encouraging attendance of the event.
