On December 12-13, the Forum on Microbial Threats, in collaboration with the Board on Life Sciences, will host a 1.5-day workshop examining "Urbanization and Slums: New Transmission Pathways of Infectious Diseases in the Built Environment." This workshop will feature discussions on the social, physical, environmental, and political drivers of infectious disease transmission in an increasingly urban and interconnected world; effective interventions and policies to achieve sustainable, health-promoting urban built environments; and strategies to close the research gap and scale up successful practices. Invited speakers and discussants will contribute perspectives from government, academia, private, and nonprofit sectors at the global, national, and local levels. This workshop will be held at the National Academies Keck Center at 500 5th St. NW, in Washington, DC. Day 1 (Dec 12): 1:00 PM - 5:30 PM EST Day 2 (Dec 13): 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM EST PLEASE NOTE: This workshop is a forum meeting that members of the public are welcome to attend, but space is limited and registration is required.
