High Throughput and Lightweight Web Applications for Modern Use Cases We’ve heard all the buzzwords: SOA, Java EE, Java Web Profile, Eclipse MicroProfile, Microservices, etc. Java web applications have seen their fair share of technology re-branding. But honestly there hasn’t been much true re-architecting. Let’s look back of how Java Development has evolved over the past 20 years for yesterday’s applications, and then consider today’s more demanding use cases. We’ll take a look at implementations of today's top underlying architectures, and a glance into some powerful frameworks as we conclude 2017, especially as Java continues to evolve as a modern language. Examples will be based largely on modules within the open-source Caucho Platform and comparable technologies, alongside real-world client site implementations. Sean WileySean is the Technical Evangelist for Caucho Technology. Sean engages with both the sales and engineering teams to facilitate adaption of technology and integration into solutions. Previous to Caucho Sean worked as an IT Analyst at Cisco and Database Programmer for the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He is based out of the sunny San Diego office and holds a BS from the University of California San Diego in Computer Science. How to Use Java Streams to Access Existing Data with Ultra-low Latency Many applications analyze large amounts of existing data. For example within the field of high-frequency trading, AI, IoT, transportation, health care or logistics. These types of analytical applications often require that a huge range of operations and aggregations are carried out with ultra-low latency in a predictable way over time. In this presentation, we will learn how developers can easily access data from existing databases with ultra-low latency by simply using the standard java.util.stream.Stream interface. Per has been a speaker at several major Java conferences including JavaOne, DevNexus, Silicon Valley Java User Group, In-Memory Computing Summit and many more. He is a co-author of the publication “Modern Java” and has written for Oracle Java Magazine. He has 20 years of Java coding experience and runs the blog “Minborg’s Javapot” with millions of views. Per is also a frequent contributor to open-source projects. Carina DreifeldtCo-founder and CEO of Speedment, Inc. Carina is serial entrepreneur and has also extensive experience of leadership, marketing and sales from major international companies in IT such as IBM and Sun Microsystems. 2015, she was awarded female entrepreneur of the year by Nasdaq Stockholm. Carina has a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Chalmers University of Technology.
