Metro North Train Stop right outside the Mushulu Entrance to the Garden and Ross Lecture Hall. See directions here. The simple truth about soils is that they are pivotal for all of life. The beauty of this simplicity lies in their complexities; how they develop, how they function and fulfill their services, how we impact them and how they respond, how they can be built. In cities, we have a unique opportunity and responsibility to understand and conserve urban soils, as they are our key to sustainable cities. It is equally important to understand how our interactions with soils in cities impact the soils outside of our city boundaries. Please join us! The goal of the symposium is to provide a platform to bring all backgrounds and disciplines into the same room to collaborate, discuss, and explore the world of soils, and how our understanding of them leads to better solutions for a sustainable future. This year we have added a Gala Dinner at The Garden Terrace Room in the Garden on Wednesday, Nov 29th at 7pm, to meet each other, network, and continue discussion. ($85. Ticket sales close on Nov 27th) Join us at the Bronx Beer Hall (NYC craft brews on tap!!)on Thursday Nov 30th after the close of the symposium. We encourage everyone to bring something to the soil exhibit: posters, art, sculpture, pictures, etc. Also, bring along your own soil to be placed on the soil map that will all be a part of that day! Try to bring the most colorful one. (a couple of spoonfuls will suffice).
