From tiny wildflowers to broad landscapes, spend a day learning how to translate nature's beauty into strong, expressive photos. We'll cover principles of good composition, light direction, time of day, weather, and tides in a mixture of lecture, slide shows, exercises, and field sessions to expand your creative vision. Instructed by Bill Helsel Note: Participants should have a solid knowledge of how to use their cameras and must bring their instruction manuals. If you have recently purchased a new camera, please learn how to use it before the seminar. -Youth, ages 12 and up, are welcome with adult supervision. -If you have any special circumstances or questions, please contact us at [email protected]. Is this event rain or shine? We use National Park advisories to determine weather or not the class will run. Click here to check out current weather conditions! Class Cancelation Policy: If a registered participant wishes to cancel their enrollment and receive a refund, notification must be received at least 14 days in advance of the class date. No refunds will be issued for enrollment cancelations made less than 14 days in advance of the class date. Class enrollment fees are non-transferable. In the event that the PRNSA Field Institute cancels a class, participants will receive a full refund of class fee. What to Bring Photographic Equipment Camera body (digital or film), lenses from wide to tele plus macro, lens hoods, protective filters (skylight or UV) Extra batteries (and charger, if applicable) Cable or other remote release (you can use your self-timer in a pinch) Sturdy tripod Filters: a polarizer is highly recommended A graduated neutral-density filter may be helpful (but don't buy one just for this class). Note: If you have several lenses, buy the polarizer and other special filters to fit your largest lens and use adapter (“step up”) rings to mount it on your smaller lenses. Plenty of digital storage card capacity or film (ISO 100 is good) Lens cleaning fluid and tissue or microfiber cloth Soft cotton handkerchief, well-washed, for wiping water off camera and lens Plastic bags for protecting cameras (when on tripods) from foul weather Umbrella (large and sturdy) if rain is predicted Small notebook and pen 3-6 images to share with the group, as digital files on a USB drive or CD (jpegs, 1024 pixels on the long dimension), or prints 8x10” or larger. Personal Gear Boots that are waterproof or you don’t mind getting wet (for working in surf or mud) and are high enough to keep grass seeds out of your socks, or gaiters to close the gap between boot tops and pants cuffs Warm, variable-weather, layered clothing (waterproof windbreaker or rain jacket, hat, gloves) Hat and sunscreen Daypack Lunch, snacks, and water for the day Binoculars (optional) Interested in becoming a class facilitator to assist PRNSA Field Institute courses or becoming a volunteer for PRNSA?
