Simpson Gumpertz & Heger (SGH) invites you to a complimentary educational seminar and networking event at our office in downtown Washington, DC.    ABOUT THE SEMINAR Welcome to Tomorrow: Computational Automation on Every Projectpresented by Paul E. Kassabian, P.E., Associate PrincipalWe are at an exciting time in the design and construction profession, where computational technology is making a real difference to projects. Computational technology helps change how we think about our work, how we understand the options we are reviewing, and how we ensure value from our work product. In design, computational tools can produce a wide range of conceptual design options at a rapid and efficient pace. For existing structures, we can determine a multitude of options for adding, placing, and installing new loads. In construction projects, these tools allow rapid development of information for site layouts and drastically reduce site errors and lost time. This work ranges from sculptures to parking garages and from facade geometry with daylighting analyses to standard steel buildings. We will detail how these tools are pervasive in all parts of our work to provide better value to our clients. We will also review case studies, each with a short 1- to 2-minute video. After attending this presentation, participants will be able to: Identify types of computational tools and their roles at various stages of a project. Weigh the pros and cons to using these tools within a team. Understand how these tools can combine geometry and technical performance into a complete project approach. Review examples of actual projects while covering layout, structure, facade/daylighting, and construction.  Participants will earn 1.0 AIA Learning Unit (LU/HSW) for their attendance.
